Holy Week

St. John’s began the week with singing Hosanna on Palm Sundayas we commemorated our Lord Jesus’ entrance to Jerusalem to accomplish the Paschal Mystery of his death and resurrection. We waved our palms and the Passion of the Lord was proclaimed.
On Thursday, we celebrated Holy Thursday, the first Mass where Jesus instituted the Eucharist. At the Last Supper Jesus washed the feet of his disciples to show them that they must do as He did and serve each other. Msgr. Mulligan washed the feet of 12 of our parishioners, reminding us to serve one another.
On Good Friday, we hear again the Passion of the Lord, we were saddened by the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus, but we are filled with hope and anticipation for the resurrection of Jesus, our Savior.
At the Easter Vigil on Saturday, the Mass began with the Service of Light. The church was dark and the fire was lit outside. Msgr. Mulligan blessed it and the Easter candle was lit. Fr. George carried the candle in followed by Msgr. Mulligan, Fr. Antonio and all the candidates for baptism and confirmation. The candles that were carried by the assembly were lit one by one. What a beautiful sight as the church were filled with the light of Jesus.
After the Exsultet was sung, the readings were read, Msgr. Mulligan blessed the water and Martha Tejeda and Rosaura Rosario were baptized by Fr. Antonio. They were anointed with the Chrism of salvation and presented with the baptismal garment and candle. The rest of the assembly renewed our baptismal promises and were sprinkled with the blessed baptismal water.
Then Martha Tejeda, Rosaura Rosario, Daniel Sanabria, Madeline Tejeda, Benjamin Cisneros, Marco Alarcon, Hope Goswick and Faith Artrip along with their sponsors were called forth to be confirmed. Msgr. Mulligan, Fr. George and Fr. Antonio stretched their hands out over the group and said a prayer calling for the Holy Spirit to come upon them. Each candidate was anointed and sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit.
We congratulate Martha, Rosaura, Daniel, Madeline, Benjamin, Marco, Hope and Faith. Welcome to the faith! May God’s grace and peace be with you always!
